As we promised, here is the 2nd part of the routes that we have prepared to disconnect in the province of Málaga!
This time, the places we have chosen are located in the regions of Valle del Guadalhorce, Serranía de Ronda and Costa del Sol Occidental. We recommend you to look at the 1st part because there are several tips that can also be useful for these 3 routes.
- ROUTE 1: El Valle del Guadalhorce and its wonders
The region of El Valle del Guadalhorce has one of the most important rivers in Málaga: the Guadalhorce, which is 154 km long. Due to the fertility of its lands, citrus, fruit and vegetable crops are common in the region. For this reason, the region is also popularly known as “the orchard of Málaga”.
From the area, we recommend you to visit 3 sites that are very close, just 20 minutes drive from each other. The Paraje Natural Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, which covers the municipalities of Alora, Antequera and Ardales, is a canyon that has been formed by the force of the río Guadalhorce over time. Of the various reservoirs, we highlight the Embalse Conde de Guadalhorce in which the impressive Caminito del Rey is located. Caminito del Rey is a pass from which there are incredible views. It takes about 3-4 hours to walk through it and it is very worth it. If, once there, you want to continue discovering the site, we recommend you to visit the Pantano del Chorro, a place to enjoy nature in all its splendor. On the other hand, on the outskirts of the village of Ardales, you cannot miss the Cueva de Ardales, or Cueva de Doña Trinidad Grund, a prehistoric archaeological site with Paleolithic rock art.
- ROUTE 2: The magic of the Serranía de Ronda
The territory that makes up the Serranía de Ronda is one of the most special in Andalucía. It groups 22 municipalities surrounded by mountain ranges and natural spaces. The places on this route are in Ronda, the town with the largest number of inhabitants and surface area, and in Benaoján, which is 16 km from Ronda.
Of course, in your excursion to Ronda you cannot miss a visit to the Puente Nuevo. The bridge is the most emblematic monument of the municipality. It is integrated in the center and to see it from below you can access by a path. If you want to know more about the bridge, you can visit the Centro de Interpretación to discover its interior and learn about its history. The next enclave of this route is the Baños Árabes Yacimiento Arqueológico. These baths, mainly steam baths, are the Muslim version of the ancient Roman baths. Its structure is completely preserved, so it is easy to imagine how it was in its time. To get to the third and last point of this route you have to go to Benaoján. There you will find the Cueva del Gato, considered a site of cultural interest, a natural space that is not only a cave with cave paintings, but also has some pools where you can cool off when temperatures are high.
- ROUTE 3: The splendid Costa del Sol Occidental
The Costa del Sol Occidental, as a region, has both beach and mountains. In addition, during the year it enjoys more than 325 days of sunshine, hence its name. Bathed by the Mar Mediterráneo, the area manages to be year after year one of the favorite tourist destinations in Spain.
Our last route is designed to visit Marbella. The idea is to start by visiting the center of the city. For this, the best thing we can think of is to walk through the Casco Antiguo, because that is where you will find the essence and origins of Marbella. We are convinced that you will love the white painted houses, the flowers and the terraces of the bars. The other enclave that is an obligatory stop in Marbella are the playa Puerto Banús and the marina. On the one hand, from the beach we highlight its tranquility and its amenities, because it has many services. On the other hand, from the marina we highlight the luxury of the area. It is one of the best-known ports and has international fame and prestige. To see the yachts and luxury brand stores they are not going to charge you, so at least you can enjoy the view!
